I returned to school later in life. Like most people in my position, I was a little apprehensive about feeling out of place. I quickly found out that Titans are a hard-working family of students who support each other.
The diversity of the English department faculty exposed me to so much, and the encouragement of my professors propelled me through all of the hard work and sacrifices I made to achieve my goal of being an English teacher.
Did CSUF change my life?  It GAVE me a life!  Go Titans - here's to 50 more!

Cal State Fullerton helped me to think critically and gave me a lot of opportunities to explore school organizations and to develop my leadership skills. I appreciate that CSUF gave me opportunities to become a strong leader. Also, the professors helped and taught me to think critically.

In the late 1970's CSF had an outstanding Soviet Area Studies department. My education at Fullerton allowed me to get into a Soviet Economics graduate program in D.C. and then pursue a 25-year career working with or in the Soviet Union and Russia that continues today.

How did Cal State Fullerton change my life? It offered me the opportunity to attend a university in a country other than my own, where I lived away from home, spoke a different language and was able to live and relate to my classmates at the university and also in a fraternity (Phi Kappa Tau).

CSUF provided me with a unique point of view and gave the ability to become a bicultural professional, not only “bilingual.” At this point of my life at the ripe age of 54 working for an American corporation and living in Mexico, is important to have the understanding not only of the business issues related to my work and companies from the U.S. Europe and Mexico, but also of the best way to handle organizational and human issues. This has given me not only good results but an enjoyment of my work, and all this I owe to CSUF and my life during my university days.
Gracias.

I graduated from CSUF in 1995 with a BA in History and Afro-Ethnic Studies.  I never could imagine that I would one day return as a faculty member, but I think the difference that CSUF made in my life was the focus on good teaching which prepared me for the rigors of graduate school.  My mentor, Dr. Art Hansen in the history department, pushed me to become a better writer, encouraged me to stay actively involved in student organizations on campus, and told me to maintain regular contact with my professors at CSU Fullerton through the years.  Less than 10 years later, I returned as a full-time lecturer and now I am an assistant professor in the Women's Studies department -- all thanks to wonderful mentors like Art Hansen (HIST), Wacira Gethaiga (AFRO), Sandra Sutphen (POSC) and other faculty members -- who not only served as great role models but were excellent teachers and scholars as well.

CSF was the site of the (NCNW-OC) National Council of Negro Women Orange County Section's "Saturday Academy" in 1993 and provided my daughter (age 10) with her first opportunity to be in a university classroom and on a campus. This educational program and setting was important in building on her positive outlook toward higher education in her future. Today she is pursuing certification in Library Science.

My thanks to Dr. Smith, chair of the Department of African Studies, who selflessly gave to this program that served more than 60 youngsters and family members.
