Letters of Recommendation

You will need to request Letters of Recommendation from faculty members or internship supervisors. Be sure to allow plenty of time for those you are requesting letters from. Only make requests to individuals that will be willing and able to provide strong letters for you. Make this request to your faculty or supervisors in writing; this will give them an opportunity to bow-out if they do not feel they can write you a strong letter. Aren’t you glad now that you got to know your faculty members and did an internship!?

Dr. Moore,

I am pursing admission to several Counseling Psychology Ph.D. programs for the fall of 2007. As I prepare my applications, I wanted to inquire about your availability to write recommendation letters for me. After doing my research, I have narrowed down my search to eight counseling psychology doctoral programs. I would greatly appreciate letters of recommendation from you regarding my ability to be successful in graduate programs such as these.

If you are available to provide these letters, I will drop off the forms early next week or at a time that is more convenient for you. I will have individual packets assembled for each school to streamline the letter writing process. I would like send out my applications in mid November and would appreciate it if I could pick up the recommendation letters on Wednesday, November 15, 2006.

Thank you in advance for your help. I appreciate you time.
