Experiencing Careers

Jim Case

Students, alumni, and employers tell us that experience is the defining factor in career success. The experiences you have as a CSUF student, both inside and outside of the classroom, can connect you to professional opportunities that will excite you. Part of that means identifying your skills, abilities, interests, and values so that you are satisfied in a career.

Recent research at Cal State Fullerton indicates that most students work while they pursue their degree, and that even more students take advantage of internships, community service, volunteer opportunities, and student leadership assignments. Spending time on career exploration and gaining valuable work related experience is one of the best educational investments you can make. Related work experience is one of the best predictors of future professional success.

This Job Search Guide allows you to consider the many career possibilities related to your past experiences, academic program, lifestyle, and your location priorities. Think of it as a starting point in the process of putting your education to work.

You are invited to take advantage of individualized assistance, workshops, and The Career library, as well as the many web based resources located on our home page at www.fullerton.edu/career.

You can also access job postings that are available only to Cal State Fullerton students and alum. To get started, use the "Career Center" quick link from your student portal. This allows you to select email preferences and create a profile to help us keep you informed about critical opportunities, deadlines, and program options that match your interests.

As you progress in your career, you will find that your professional experiences are vital in shaping and creating the future you desire. The Career Center and the University are committed to your continued success, and we look forward to providing support as you enter your professional career.

Sincerely,
