College
of Business and Economics that help us create an environment
to promote the success of our students and faculty:
-
The College is the only business school in Orange County fully accredited by
the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB
International). Accreditation by AACSB International is the accepted benchmark
of program quality in business and accounting education. The College is among
only 25 percent of business schools nationwide that have earned AACSB
accreditation, and the university's accounting program is among just 163
programs nationally with additional specialized accreditation.
-
The hallmark of our College is a unique combination of theory and practice that
produces highly successful workers for today's economy with an emphasis on
effective written and oral communication.
-
The College is the third largest accredited undergraduate business program in
the United States and the largest in California: 7,140 undergraduates and 498
graduate students.
-
Our College employs over 200 highly qualified full and part-time faculty
members: over 90% have doctorate degrees.
Among the strengths cited by the recent accreditation team were "excellent
relationships with the business community" and "excellent technology support
for its faculty and classrooms." Our programs have enjoyed an unbroken record
of accreditation since 1965, and when first accredited, Cal State Fullerton was
the nation's youngest institution to achieve that standard, doing so just two
years after the campus admitted its first freshmen class.
Our continued success is driven by our highly diverse student population
including many first-in-the-family college attendees; and the College has a
legacy of developing capable and motivated employees, as evidenced by the large
numbers of graduates among the professional, management and executives in
Southern California firms.
The College provides the opportunity for students to develop technical expertise
in a chosen discipline at a beginning professional level acceptable to
prospective employers. Cal State Fullerton business administration majors have
won national and regional awards for their skills in utilizing their business
education in practical applications. As students, they receive broad exposure
to the fields of business and economics, as well as opportunities to specialize
in a number of programs, including accounting, finance, economics,
entertainment and tourism, entrepreneurship, and marketing, international
business, and information systems. Three undergraduate degrees are offered:
Business Administration, Economics, and International Business, plus five
graduate degrees: MBA, Accountancy, Economics, Information Systems, and
Taxation.
Activities that bring alumni and other business leaders to campus to share their
knowledge and expertise with students include the Dean's annual Economic
Forecast, as well as Professor for a Day and Business Week. In addition,
business majors are required to complete capstone courses that typically
involve real world projects, providing students with practical experience and
benefits to area businesses.
Faculty members in the college serve as advisers and consultants to
international, national, and statewide agencies, and as members of national and
state advisory boards. They have testified before the Congress and served as
consultants to multinational corporations.
In addition to our educational programs, the college provides research,
consulting, continuing education and training programs for the Southern
California region. The College of Business and Economics operates centers for:
Economic Education, Entrepreneurship, Insurance Studies, Study of Economics of
Aging, and Study of Emerging Markets. The college also houses the Family
Business Council and the institutes for Economic and Environmental Studies,
Real Estate and Land Use, and Small Business.
Sincerely,
Anil Puri, Ph.D.
