Thomas P. Klammer, Ph.D., Dean College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Dear Cal State Fullerton Employer:

I'm delighted that you're considering graduates from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences for your next open position. Every year, majors in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences graduate from Cal State Fullerton well prepared to begin professional careers in business, public service, education, government, and other fields that require the critical analysis, confident writing, and persuasive oral communication skills that are developed by our students. When you hire one of our graduates, you can expect to see these distinctive qualities:

  • Trainability - Humanities and Social Sciences majors bring specific intellectual tools that help them to understand themselves, your organization, and your customers. They are known on campus for a high level of involvement in student leadership and student organizations. This translates into proven experience applying academic skills to real world situations, so that the CSUF grad that you hire for today's job will continue to grow with your organization.
  • Diversity - Employers often tell us that they need employees with the ability to deal with the special challenges of a diverse marketplace and a diverse workplace. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences offers more than forty degree programs, the largest number of any college in the university. Along with the cultural and ethnic diversity in our student body overall, many graduates from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences develop specialized expertise with majors and minors like Afro-Ethnic Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicana and Chicano Studies, and Women's Studies. Each year we graduate majors and minors in several modern languages, linguistics, and regional studies like Latin American Studies and our newest major, European Studies.
  • Achievement - Our graduates bring high standards to every challenge. This is why, for example, in just the past year, our students have won a California Senate Fellowship, multiple Distinguished Delegation and Most Outstanding Delegation awards on behalf of our Model United Nations program, two prestigious Fulbright Awards, two of the highly competitive Coro Fellowships, and the only credentials issued to a student journalist to embed with our troops in Iraq

We are justifiably proud of our graduates and have high expectations for their achievement in any industry or profession. The combination of trainability, diversity, energy, and determination that they bring to any position should leave you as pleased as we are. Thank you for your support of Cal State Fullerton, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Career Center.

Sincerely,

Thomas P. Klammer, Ph.D., Dean
