The Workforce Improvement Project (WIP) is a 3-year project (2009-2012) that focuses on the richness of cultural diversity in nursing and improving psychosocial and academic student nurse success at CSUF. This project is involved with pre-licensure (EL-BSN), on-campus associate to baccalaureate degree completion program students (RN-BSN), and the pre-nursing students who are taking pre-requisite courses for the nursing baccalaureate program.
We hope to gain a better understanding of our nursing students' needs through the use of assessment tools, focus groups, and surveys. We plan to facilitate the use of resources to augment student campus and academic experiences, and support student-to-student peer mentoring.
The WIP has included panel discussions of nursing careers and celebrations of diversity! Selected groups of students already admitted to the BSN Program as well as pre-nursing students may also receive scholarships or stipends.
Workforce Improvement Project goals include:
• Improved student perceptions of acceptance by peers and faculty
• Enhanced social support of friends and family
• Decreased cultural dissonance and related stress while at CSUF
• Improved academic performance and progress, leading to lower attrition and improved graduation rates in the CSUF School of Nursing
Please join us in our work to make CSUF School of Nursing the very best that it can be for our students!
